Prenzies offer a rough-and-tumble 'Much Ado'

The Prenzie Players" rough-and-tumble production of Shakespeare"s "Much Ado About Nothing" at the Village Theater, Davenport, is theater-in-the-round, a more conventional format than they usually choose.

Directed by Stephanie Burrough, it played to a full house opening night.

It happens to by my favorite work by William Shakespeare, so my expectations for “Much Ado About Nothing” are high.
But then, so too are my expectations for the Prenzie Players.

With the current Much Ado About Nothing, I've now attended 10 presentations by the classical-theatre troupe the Prenzie Players, and perhaps fittingly, it's maybe the most sheerly Prenzie Prenzie production I've yet seen.

There are times I’m thoroughly convinced that no one in theater is having more fun than the Prenzie Players.

The group’s latest, “Much Ado About Nothing,” only goes to reinforce that notion.

Prenzie Players present Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare

Beatrice is unmarried and unapproachable, famous for the sting of her wit.
Benedick is a soldier and bachelor, confirmed in his contempt for romance.
Beatrice scorns Benedick.
Benedick mocks Beatrice.
A lively showdown between the sexes ensues.

Friday, March 6—Post show discussion immediately after!

Immediately after the Friday, March 6th production, a post-show discussion focusing on the specific topics relevant both to the play being produced and to the audience viewing it. The discussions feature the director and cast of the production fielding questions and comments from audience members.

Much Ado About Nothing will be presented at The Village Theatre (formerly Turner Hall) in the Village of East Davenport, 2113 E. 11th Street Davenport, Iowa. Doors open at 7:30 PM., curtain at 8:00 PM.—except on March 8th, when doors open at 1:30PM, with curtain at 2:00PM. Tickets available at door only. Tickets $8 for all. Announcing a Verse Workshop and Auditions for Much Ado About Nothing and Trojan Women

Prenzie Players will be holding a Verse Workshop in conjunction with Auditions for the March production of "Much Ado About Nothing" by William Shakespeare and May's production of "Trojan Women" by Euripides. The workshop will examine selected text from both shows and introduce a few tidbits on how to successfully prepare for auditions.

Verse Workshop
December 1, 2008: 7-9pm

Auditions for "Much Ado About Nothing" AND "Trojan Women"
Readings from the scripts with other actors.
Feel free to bring a prepared monologue, but not necessary.
Wednesday and Thursday, December 3, 4: 6-9pm
